If anyone wanted an example of how a campaign to interfere in people's lifestyle choices on one issue transfers readily to more interference on other choices, the latest government initiative in Turkey fits the bill perfectly.
After legislating an uncompromising indoor smoking ban, the current government decided to apply the exact same series of strategies and rhetorical justifications (Think of the children! Promote healthy lifestyles!) to alcohol. This includes alcohol advertising and display bans, tax increases, marketing bans, and so forth:
Not so shocking, really, since we've been warning about this sort of thing since several years.
